Coming to Bali for XERF? What International Patients Should Know Before Booking

The medical side of planning a treatment abroad: history before you fly, timing inside your stay, sun afterwards, and a follow-up plan that works from another country.

Short answer. XERF fits a trip well: one session, most people resume normal activities the same day, and the result develops after you return home. To do it safely, share your medical and aesthetic history before you travel, book early in your stay rather than the day before you fly, plan sun protection for the days afterwards, and agree how follow-up will work from home. XERF is also sold in several other countries, including Australia since May 2026, so choose Bali for the doctor and the planning rather than because the treatment is unavailable at home.

Is XERF available in my home country?

Possibly. The manufacturer launched XERF in 2024 and it was sold in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Canada by August 2025 (Cynosure Lutronic, August 2025). It launched in Australia in May 2026 (PR Newswire, May 2026, Cynosure Lutronic ANZ). If you are an Australian patient it is reasonable to compare a local provider with treatment in Bali. The questions that matter are the same in both places: who assesses you, who treats you, and what happens if you need help afterwards.

What professional bodies advise about treatment abroad

The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons warns that follow-up care after overseas procedures may require a new treating team and additional cost, and the Australian Government’s Smartraveller service publishes guidance for anyone going overseas for a medical procedure. Most of that advice is written with surgery in mind; XERF is non-invasive with a much lower risk profile, but the principles still apply.

Before you book: share your history

  1. Photos of the area that concerns you, front and side, in natural light, without filters.
  2. Medical history: implanted devices (a pacemaker or defibrillator means XERF is not possible); pregnancy or plans for it; metal implants; diabetes; keloid scarring; cancer history; current medicines, including isotretinoin in the last six months.
  3. Aesthetic history: filler, toxin, skin boosters, threads, previous HIFU or radiofrequency, liposuction — what, where and when. These change the settings and sometimes the timing (Seoul training article).
Clinical observation — not published evidence

dr. Jesslyn reviews this before you travel and will say if XERF is unlikely to suit you, so you do not plan a trip around the wrong treatment.

An in-person assessment still happens in Bali before any treatment. Photographs help planning; they cannot replace an examination.

When XERF should fit into your trip

What you will take home

You may leave with a visible early change, part tightening and part temporary swelling. The lasting result develops over about three months as new collagen forms (results timeline). You will judge your result at home, not in Bali.

Follow-up once you are home

Choosing the clinic

Check the doctor’s registration, the device’s authenticity and who will actually treat you: our guide to choosing a skin tightening clinic in Bali explains how to verify each of these yourself. Elea Clinic is a dermatologist-led clinic in Denpasar, Bali’s capital, rather than a resort spa, and dr. Jesslyn’s registration can be checked publicly (details). For location, transport and country-specific planning, see international patients.

Clinical observation — not published evidence

“Visitors often want the most they can fit into one trip. My job is sometimes to slow that down. One well-planned treatment, with time to recover and a follow-up plan, is safer and usually gives a better result than three treatments squeezed into the last two days of a holiday.” — dr. Jesslyn Amelia

Who should not have XERF

Not treated: anyone with a pacemaker, an implantable defibrillator or another implanted electrical device — monopolar radiofrequency passes current through tissue and can interfere with them. Pregnancy.

Assessed carefully first: metal implants or permanent filler in the treatment area; active skin infection or inflammatory skin disease at the site; a history of keloid scarring; isotretinoin within the past six months; current or recent malignancy; poorly controlled diabetes.

Probably better served by something else: heavy skin excess, where a surgical result is more meaningful than a tightening treatment. The full list sits on the XERF safety section.

Questions we are asked

Can I fly after XERF?

Generally yes. There is no specific flying restriction, but we suggest not scheduling treatment the day before a long-haul flight so there is time for review if needed.

Can I swim or sunbathe after XERF?

Avoid intense sun on the treated area for the first days and use sunscreen daily. Ask about swimming at your appointment, as advice depends on how your skin responds.

Do I need a consultation before the treatment day?

You can start by sending photographs and your history on WhatsApp, but an in-person assessment always happens before treatment.

Is XERF cheaper in Bali than in Australia?

Prices vary by clinic and by treatment plan. Compare the whole package — doctor, device, dose and follow-up — rather than the headline price.

What if I am not happy with the result once I am home?

Send your three-month photographs for review. dr. Jesslyn will compare them with your baseline and discuss options honestly.
