Downtime, honestly.

Arranged by how much of a mark it leaves and for how long — because on a trip that is the question that actually decides what you can have.

Most clinic websites organise treatments by technology, which is useful if you already know what you want and useless if what you actually need to know is whether you can go to dinner afterwards. This page is arranged the other way round — by how much of a mark it leaves and for how long.

Everything below is general information drawn from our own treatment pages. It is not a substitute for a consultation, and the honest answer to “how long will I take to recover” depends on your skin, the area treated and the settings used. What follows will tell you whether a treatment is plausible for your trip. Only an assessment will tell you whether it is right for you.

Group one

Nothing visible. Back out the same day.

No recovery period. You can be at dinner that evening and nobody will know.

Group two

Same day, with small marks possible.

No real recovery, but there may be something to cover for a day.

Group three

Needs a plan, not a slot.

Not because recovery is dramatic, but because these are staged over months.

The part nobody warns you about: the sun

In most places the question after a treatment is how long the redness lasts. In Bali the question is what you do about ultraviolet for the next few days, and it is the single most common reason a holiday treatment goes badly.

Anything that targets pigment — laser, melasma work, treatment of sun damage — leaves skin temporarily more reactive to UV. A morning on a boat two days later can undo the result and, with melasma, can leave you worse than when you started. This is not a reason to avoid treatment on holiday. It is a reason to book pigment and laser work at the end of your trip rather than the beginning, so the days that follow are travel days rather than beach days.

The reverse is true for anything that might bruise. Those are better early, so there is time for a mark to settle before you fly.

Planning it around a flight

Arriving

Tell us your departure date when you book, not when you arrive. It changes what we recommend, and occasionally it changes whether we recommend anything at all.

Leave a buffer

Bruising and swelling are most visible in the first 24 to 48 hours. If there is an event or a long flight at the end of the trip, build in a couple of days rather than treating the day before.

Courses, not sessions

Profhilo, Rejuran and Nucleofill are all courses. If you cannot return, say so — we will tell you honestly whether a single session is worth having.

Follow-up

We answer questions on WhatsApp after you have flown home. That is not a marketing line; it is how most of our international follow-up actually happens.

What we will not do. We will not fit a treatment into a trip that is too short for it, and we will not start a course we know you cannot finish without telling you plainly what that means for the result. If you have three days and want something that needs three months, the honest answer is that the trip is wrong for the treatment — and you should hear that before you pay, not after.

Questions we are asked

Which treatments in Bali have no downtime at all?

Botox sessions run 20–30 minutes with no downtime. The Hollywood Laser Peel has zero downtime, with mild redness possible for one to two hours. XERF has minimal to no downtime — some patients notice mild redness or warmth for a few hours, with no swelling, bruising or recovery period. Individual response varies and suitability is assessed at consultation.

Can I have a treatment the day before I fly home?

For treatments with no visible recovery it is usually possible. For anything that can bruise — injectables in particular — it is better to leave a buffer, because bruising and swelling are most visible in the first 24 to 48 hours. Tell us your departure date when you book rather than when you arrive.

Should I book laser treatment at the start or the end of my Bali trip?

The end. Anything targeting pigment leaves skin temporarily more reactive to ultraviolet, and a day in strong sun soon afterwards can undo the result. With melasma it can leave you worse than before. Treatments that might bruise are better early in a trip, so a mark has time to settle before you fly.

Is one session of Profhilo or Rejuran worth having on holiday?

Sometimes, but you should be told honestly first. Profhilo is given as two sessions four weeks apart; Rejuran as three to four sessions two to four weeks apart; Nucleofill as two sessions a month apart. A single session is the start of a course rather than a complete treatment. If you cannot return, say so at consultation and we will tell you whether it is worth starting.

Can melasma be treated during a short trip to Bali?

It can be diagnosed and a plan can be started, but melasma is a chronic condition managed over months rather than cleared in a session. High energy and repeated passes can worsen it. For a short visit the more valuable outcome is usually an accurate diagnosis and a regimen you can continue at home.

What should I tell the clinic before I travel?

Isotretinoin use within the last six months, recent sunburn, photosensitising medication, pregnancy or breastfeeding, any implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker, and any treatment you have had elsewhere recently. Several of these change what is safe to perform.

Do you follow up after I fly home?

Yes. Post-treatment questions are answered on WhatsApp, which is how most international follow-up happens in practice.

Will I see the result before I leave Bali?

It depends entirely on the treatment. The Hollywood Laser Peel has an immediate brightening effect. XERF tightening builds over weeks with peak results around three months, so you will not see the full outcome before you fly. Anyone promising a visible lift within days of an energy-based treatment is overstating it.
