Home · XERF Results Timeline: Day 1 to 3 Months and B
Two processes, two timelines. Knowing which is which is the difference between a patient who is pleased at three months and one who gives up at week three.
Short answer. Many people see a firmer, more defined contour on the day of XERF. Part of that is real collagen contraction and part is temporary swelling, which settles over a few days. The lasting change comes from new collagen, which builds gradually; for radiofrequency tightening generally, maximal results appear over three to six months (O’Connor 2021). Timelines vary between people, and no one can promise a particular result on a particular date.
Radiofrequency heats collagen. Microscopy shows fibrils contracting straight after treatment (Zelickson 2004), and the heat also acts as a controlled injury that prompts new collagen over the months that follow. An early multicentre study of monopolar RF described “an early tissue-tightening effect followed by additional tightening over time” (Fitzpatrick 2003). The result you see on day one and the result you have at three months are produced by different processes.
| When | In the tissue | What you may notice | How confident is this? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Immediately | Collagen fibrils contract; tissue warm and mildly swollen | A tighter, more defined jawline; redness | Mechanism well documented; appearance varies |
| Days 1–3 | Swelling settles | Some day-one definition softens — expected, not a failure | Common clinical experience |
| Weeks 2–4 | Healing response; new collagen begins | Little visible change for many; skin may feel firmer | Mechanism documented; visible change variable |
| Month 2 | Collagen production continues | Gradual firmness and contour change | Supported by RF studies showing continued change (Wanitphakdeedecha 2022) |
| Month 3 | Remodelling well under way | The usual point to review photographs | XERF-specific data end at 90 days |
| Months 3–6 | Remodelling can continue | Some people keep improving | Shown for monopolar RF generally, not yet for XERF |
| Beyond 6 months | Normal ageing continues | Maintenance may be discussed | No published XERF data |

Most XERF patients can see a difference in the mirror before they leave, usually along the jawline and under the chin. This is the “immediate outcome” Elea reported at the ARUNA International Summit 2026.
Part of it is swelling. When that settles over the following days, some patients feel the result has gone. It has not: the contraction component remains, and the collagen-building phase has only just started. We photograph every patient before and after so change can be judged objectively later.
The photographs on our XERF page were taken immediately after one session, without filters or retouching. They show the immediate phase, not the final result.
This is the period most likely to disappoint someone who was not warned about it. New collagen is being made, but visible change is slow. Protect your skin from the sun, sleep, avoid smoking — and do not judge the treatment yet.
For monopolar radiofrequency devices, studies report continuing improvement at one, three and six months (Wanitphakdeedecha 2022). A 2026 prospective multicentre study of dual-frequency monopolar RF reported that 84.6% of 39 participants met its clinician-rated improvement threshold at 30 days and 92.3% at 90 days (Cureus 2026). That study had no control group and ran for 90 days, so it supports a trend rather than proving a size of effect.
Three months is the usual review point at Elea. We compare standardised photographs, discuss what has and has not changed, and decide whether anything further is worthwhile.
The honest answer is that nobody knows yet from published evidence: no XERF study has reported beyond three months. The manufacturer’s Australian page states effects lasting “several weeks to up to three years” (Cynosure Lutronic ANZ), which is a marketing statement. Even for older monopolar RF devices, early investigators wrote that the clinical longevity of results had yet to be determined (Alster & Tanzi 2004).
What is clear is that radiofrequency does not stop ageing. The collagen you build continues to age with you, which is why maintenance is often discussed after six to twelve months.
Objective improvement and satisfaction are also not the same thing. In one early monopolar RF study, 83.2% of treated areas improved on photographic scoring, yet only 50% of patients said they were satisfied (Fitzpatrick 2003). Realistic expectations are part of a good result.
“Because XERF only arrived in Bali in June 2026, most of the patients I have treated are still inside their first three months. I can tell you what I see on the day and in the first weeks. I will be able to tell you much more at six and twelve months, and I would rather say that plainly than borrow someone else’s longevity figures.” — dr. Jesslyn Amelia
Promptly, if you notice blistering or a raw area; a firm, painful red patch that is spreading; a dip or depression in the skin; or pain that worsens after the first day. These are uncommon, and they should be assessed early.

When will I see XERF results?
Often some change on the day, partly from swelling. The lasting result develops gradually, with a review at about three months.
Why do I look less tight on day three than on day one?
Swelling has settled. The collagen-building phase is still ahead of you.
Do I need a second session?
That is decided at review. Some faces benefit from a second treatment; many do not need one.
Can XERF results be permanent?
No. Radiofrequency stimulates collagen, but normal ageing continues, so results are not permanent.
How long does XERF last?
No published XERF study has followed patients beyond three months, so an honest answer is that the durability is not yet established.
