Home · A XERF Clinical Exchange in Seoul: What Was Le
What travels home from a training visit is not a list of settings. It is a way of deciding who to treat, where to hold back, and when to say no.
Short answer. Korean dermatology sees an unusually high volume of energy-based treatment, which makes it a useful place to compare how experienced practitioners select patients and plan treatments. In August 2026 dr. Jesslyn completed the Cynosure Lutronic Academy programme on the dual-frequency monopolar RF system in Korea. What transfers from a visit like that is not a set of numbers, but a way of deciding: which faces to treat, which to decline, and where to hold back.
XERF was developed by Cynosure Lutronic, a Korean manufacturer, launched there in 2024 and sold in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Canada before its US clearance in August 2025 (Cynosure Lutronic, August 2025). The practitioners with the longest continuous experience of the device are therefore largely Korean, and the manufacturer’s own academy sits alongside that clinical community.

Not watching treatments. Sessions combine lectures, hands-on work under supervision and, above all, the exchange of clinical experience — clinicians describing the cases they have treated, the plans they built and what they would do differently. The useful part is the reasoning: why this patient, why this depth, why fewer pulses here than the plan first suggested.
What is documented publicly: Dr Doyoung Rhee is a dermatologist at Heal House Dermatology in Seoul, and the manufacturer describes him as academic director of Korea Derma (Cynosure Lutronic EMEA).
The exchange between them was exactly that — an exchange of clinical experience with the device, in which each described the patients they had treated, how plans were built and what they would change. No live treatment was observed.
What we are not saying. Elea Clinic has no partnership, affiliation or formal mentorship with any Korean clinic or physician, and nothing in this article should be read as an endorsement of Elea by anyone named in it.
The lower face changes through several processes at once: fat compartments shift (Rohrich & Pessa 2007), the mandible loses height and length (Shaw 2010), and the connective tissue around the mandibular ligament lengthens (Minelli 2023). The proportions differ between individuals and between populations, which is why a protocol that works well in one clinic’s patients is a starting point elsewhere, not a recipe.
Watching plans built for faces with different bone structure and skin thickness is the fastest way to see which parts of a protocol are fixed and which are judgement. Very slim faces with little fat are approached more cautiously with any deep-heating device; heavier lower faces need a different distribution of energy rather than simply more of it.
The two frequencies behave differently in tissue. In modelling and animal work, 2 MHz produced broader, deeper heating in the fatty layer while 6.78 MHz heated more locally along the fibrous septa (Ko 2025). That is laboratory evidence, not a human outcome, but it is the rationale for planning depth by region.
Three things: a regional plan rather than a uniform one; explicit avoidance zones; and a willingness to decline. The numbers themselves belong in a consultation, applied to a particular face.
Technology can be purchased. Clinical judgement has to be developed.
Comparing notes with experienced practitioners is education, not evidence. It does not establish that a device works, how large the effect is or how long it lasts — those require controlled studies, and for XERF they do not yet exist. The published literature remains two animal and modelling studies, one 39-person uncontrolled study and one 16-person retrospective study (Hong 2024, Ko 2025, Cureus 2026, Erlich 2026).

Where did dr. Jesslyn train in XERF?
She was certified at XERF Workshop 2026 (idsMED and Cynosure Lutronic) and completed the Cynosure Lutronic Academy programme in Korea on 12 August 2026.
Is Elea Clinic affiliated with a Korean clinic?
No. Elea Clinic has no partnership or affiliation with any Korean clinic or physician. Training and an exchange of clinical experience are not affiliations.
Does Korean training make a treatment better?
It improves the plan behind the treatment. It does not change what radiofrequency can achieve, which remains mild-to-moderate improvement developing over months.
Who performs XERF at Elea Clinic?
dr. Jesslyn Amelia, Sp.D.V.E, who performs every XERF treatment personally.
