Home · Vanquish ME in Bali — Contactless RF Bod
A contactless radiofrequency device for modest reduction in abdominal and thigh circumference. Cleared for circumference, not for fat destruction — and we will explain the difference before you book.
Vanquish ME is a contactless radiofrequency device used for non-invasive body contouring. A panel is suspended roughly a centimetre above the skin and never touches you. It is made by BTL Industries and operates at 27.12 MHz, delivering a focused field that heats subcutaneous fat more than the skin above it.
Vanquish ME holds US FDA 510(k) clearance K152731 (filed as the XP1100 RF), granted 20 July 2016. The indication for use reads in full: “The XP1100 RF is indicated for temporary reduction in circumference of the abdomen and thighs.”
Three things follow from that wording, and we would rather you hear them from us. The cleared outcome is circumference, measured in centimetres — not fat destruction, not weight loss. The clearance says temporary. And it covers the abdomen and thighs only. Marketing elsewhere often claims permanent fat-cell destruction; that claim sits outside the clearance.
Vanquish is not a weight-loss treatment and is not a treatment for obesity. It is best suited to someone near their stable weight who wants a modest reduction in abdominal or thigh circumference, and who understands the result is measured in centimetres rather than dress sizes. If your goal is significant fat reduction, this is the wrong treatment and dr. Jesslyn will say so.
| Protocol | Four sessions, per the manufacturer's own documentation. More only if indicated. |
|---|---|
| Session length | About 45 minutes |
| Interval | 7–10 days between sessions |
| Sensation | Deep warmth. In the published series most patients reported no pain. |
| Contact | None — the applicator is suspended above the skin |
| Downtime | None reported; transient redness is usual |
We would rather set this out honestly than quote a marketing figure. The published literature on Vanquish is real but small: single-arm case series of roughly 12 to 36 patients, several funded by or linked to the manufacturer, with no sham-controlled randomised trial. Reported outcomes are circumference reductions of a few centimetres and fat-thickness reductions of a few millimetres on imaging.
The most relevant study for our patients is Suh and colleagues (2017), which assessed twelve Asian patients over five sessions and confirmed subcutaneous fat volume reduction on CT in ten of them. A four-year follow-up by Fritz and Salavastru (2017) found roughly three quarters of the initial reduction maintained — but in only thirteen patients.
Absolute: pregnancy and breastfeeding; cardiac pacemakers, bladder or spinal cord stimulators and other implanted electronic devices; metal-containing IUDs and metal implants in the treatment area; malignant or undiagnosed tumours.
Requires assessment: deep vein thrombosis, phlebitis, varicose veins, arterial disease or circulatory insufficiency; acute inflammation; Graves' disease; reduced thermal sensation in the area. Burns are a documented risk of excessive exposure, which is why the device is operated to protocol with skin temperature monitored. One case of paradoxical adipose hyperplasia following radiofrequency treatment has been reported in the literature.
Is Vanquish ME FDA approved for fat reduction?
No — and the distinction matters. Vanquish ME holds FDA 510(k) clearance (K152731), not approval, and the cleared indication is “temporary reduction in circumference of the abdomen and thighs”. It is not cleared for fat destruction, weight loss or permanent fat removal.
Does Vanquish touch the skin?
No. The applicator panel is held about a centimetre above the body using a spacer and never makes contact. Most patients describe a sensation of deep warmth.
How many sessions will I need?
The manufacturer's protocol is four sessions of about 45 minutes, 7 to 10 days apart, with additional sessions only where indicated. dr. Jesslyn will advise after assessing the area.
Will I lose weight?
No. Vanquish is not a weight-loss treatment and is not a treatment for obesity. The cleared and measured outcome is a reduction in circumference. It is not a substitute for diet and exercise.
Are the results permanent?
The FDA-cleared indication describes the reduction as temporary. One small four-year follow-up study of thirteen patients found roughly three quarters of the initial reduction maintained. Individual results vary.
Is it safe if I have a pacemaker or metal implant?
No. Implanted electronic devices including pacemakers, and metal implants in the treatment area, are contraindications. Tell us about any implant at consultation.
